Distance Technologies is looking for a part-time Data Collection Driver to support the development of its next-generation display technologies . Your main responsibility is to drive a Distance-provided car and collect camera and sensor data in different environments around the capital area. The data is used by Distance’s R&D teams to develop technologies such as depth estimation, positioning, and latency compensation, so your drives might take you from city streets and highways to forest roads in varying conditions. Based on requests from the engineering team, you will plan suitable routes, operate pre-made data collection scripts from a laptop, and verify that the cameras and sensors are working properly. During the drive, you will troubleshoot basic technical issues independently, such as Wi-Fi, cable, USB device or storage problems. After each drive, you will check and upload the recordings and document the driving conditions and any unexpected events. What makes you a great fit? This role suits you if you are looking for a flexible part-time role, where you can combine driving with an interest in technology and gain experience in a real R&D environment. The role can fit well alongside technical studies, but relevant skills and curiosity may just as well come from work experience, projects or hobbies. You are comfortable with computers, enjoy solving practical problems and can work independently based on technical instructions. What matters is a reliable approach to driving, technical curiosity, and willingness to learn. We expect you to have: A valid Category B driving license and responsible driving skills Recent and regular driving experience in both urban environments and varying road conditions in Finland Good computer skills and confidence following technical instructions Ability to troubleshoot basic issues with Wi-Fi, USB devices, cables, storage and similar equipment Reliable and independent approach to your work Good English skills We consider as an asset: Familiarity with Linux Experience with cameras, lenses, focusing, sensors, or similar equipment Basic scripting skills, such as automating a file transfer Familiarity with computer vision or related technologies We can offer you: Chance to build valuable technical experience in a flexible entry-level role that can fit alongside your studies or other commitments Opportunity to join a growing deep tech company developing new technology for global automotive and defense applications Environment to improve vehicle safety, seeing how the data you collect contributes directly to its development Hands-on experience with advanced cameras, sensors, and test equipment while learning how deep tech products are developed Opportunity to work closely with experienced engineers, giving you practical exposure to computer vision and sensor development Practicalities: This is a part-time (16-32,5h/month) and fixed term position until 31.1.2027. Working hours are flexible and agreed based on data collection needs. As data collection depends on suitable weather conditions, scheduled shifts may occasionally need to be rescheduled at short notice due to weather.
