Our client, a leading digital marketplace business serving millions of users, is looking for a Senior Backend Developer who is ready to take the next step towards a technical leadership position. This opportunity is ideal for someone who wants to remain hands-on with development while gradually taking ownership of technical decisions, mentoring junior developers, and helping shape engineering best practices. The Role Working within a modern product engineering environment, you will contribute to the design, development, and continuous improvement of large-scale digital platforms. You'll collaborate closely with experienced engineers and product teams while gaining exposure to architectural decision-making and technical leadership responsibilities. You will be encouraged to take ownership, share knowledge, and develop the skills needed to progress into a future Lead Developer or Technical Lead position. Key Responsibilities - Design and develop scalable backend solutions using modern technologies. - Contribute to architecture discussions and technical decision-making. - Build and maintain APIs, integrations, and business-critical services. - Optimise application performance and database efficiency. - Participate in system modernisation and technical improvement initiatives. - Support code quality through reviews, testing, and best practices. - Mentor junior developers and share technical knowledge within the team. - Work closely with stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutions. - Explore and adopt AI-assisted development tools and modern engineering practices. Required Experience - Strong backend development experience using Node.js and TypeScript. - Solid understanding of software architecture principles. - Experience working with PostgreSQL or other relational databases. - Familiarity with cloud technologies and modern deployment practices. - Experience with automated testing and CI/CD processes. - Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset. - Fluent Finnish language skills. Nice to Have - React and Next.js experience. - AWS and Docker knowledge. - Marketplace, e-commerce, or high-traffic platform experience. - Previous mentoring or coaching experience. - Experience working with AI development tools such as GitHub Copilot or Claude Code. - Experience contributing to architectural decisions within a product-focused environment.
