We are now looking for a Doctoral Researcher to join a multidisciplinary research environment spanning two faculties at the University of Oulu: the Research Unit of Health Sciences and Technology (HST), Faculty of Medicine the Center for Machine Vision and Signal Analysis (CMVS), Computer Science and Engineering, Faculty of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering The position offers a distinctive opportunity to conduct research at the intersection of artificial intelligence, signal processing, computer vision, and digital health. The objective of the position is to carry out high-quality doctoral research and to complete a doctoral degree during the four-year employment period. About the job The position is part of the Research Council of Finland-funded Academy Research Fellow project led by Dr. Xiaoting Wu: CARDIAB: Towards Cardiometabolic Intelligence—Decoding Heart Dynamics for AI-Augmented Diabetes Monitoring and Human Sustainable Wellbeing . As a doctoral researcher, you will: Conduct doctoral research on multimodal physiological sensing and AI-based analysis of cardiac dynamics. Process and analyze ECG, PPG, camera-based physiological measurements, and radar signals. Contribute to the design of data collection protocols, sensor synchronization, data annotation, and research data management. Evaluate associations between multimodal physiological patterns, diabetes-related factors, and broader indicators of cardiometabolic health. Collaborate with researchers from computer science, engineering, health sciences, and medicine. Complete doctoral studies at the University of Oulu Graduate School. Publish research findings in high-quality international journals and conferences. What we offer A fully funded, full-time doctoral researcher position for four years. In order to succeed and enjoy the position, we require from you: Master's degree in a relevant field, such as computer science, electronic engineering, data science, or a comparable discipline. A Master's degree must have been completed before the start of the doctoral researcher's work. Strong programming and data processing skills with C/C++/Matlab/python. Foundational knowledge of machine learning, digital signal processing, and statistical data analysis. Motivation to conduct long-term doctoral research in a multidisciplinary environment. Fluent in written and spoken English. The ability to work both independently and collaboratively. Salary The position is full-time and a fixed term for 4 years. The employment will begin as soon as possible after the completion of the recruitment process. The salary will be based on levels 2-4 of the demand level chart for teaching and research staff of Finnish universities. In addition, a salary component based on personal work performance will be paid (a maximum of 50% of the job-specific component).
