The duration of the employment is from six months to four years fixed-term. Selected Doctoral Researchers must begin work between 1 January to 2 August 2027 and are expected to complete their dissertation by the end of the employment. The History, Philosophy and Literary Studies Unit (HiFi) is an umbrella for research and teaching in humanities at the Faculty of Social Sciences (SOC) . The doctoral programmes in history, philosophy and literary studies provide a supportive and well-established research environment and an active seminary culture for completing a doctoral degree. HiFi hosts three research centres: HEX – The Centre for the History of Experience, Narrare Centre for Interdisciplinary Narrative Studies and Tampere Centre for Classical, Medieval and Early Modern Studies (TRIVIUM) . In addition, the unit is involved in two Research Council of Finland Centres of Excellence: CoE in Meliorist Philosophy of Suffering (MePhiS) and CoE in Nationalism Research in the Humanities (NARS). The unit is also home to a number of other research projects funded by the EU, the Research Council of Finland, and various foundations. In addition to doctoral programmes, HiFi offers education at both the Bachelor’s and Master’s levels through the Degree Programmes in History, Philosophy and Literary Studies, each covering both undergraduate and graduate studies. The positions are located in the following doctoral programmes : Doctoral Programme in History Doctoral Programme in Literary Studies Doctoral Programme in Philosophy Job description The applicants selected in the positions will pursue a doctoral degree in one of the doctoral programs of the History, Philosophy and Literary Studies Unit at Tampere University. The expected duration of full-time studies is four years. Fixed-term employment contracts may be from six months to four years; the length of the contract depends on the doctoral researcher’s current stage of studies and the expected graduation date. The position is intended primarily for applicants who have previously not received funding for doctoral studies or the funding period has been less than four years (full-time equivalent). The terms of the dissertation work are defined in the annual work plan, doctoral researcher’s personal study and supervision plan. Annual progress reports are required. In addition to the dissertation work, doctoral researchers are expected to teach or perform other duties related to their studies. These duties may not exceed five per cent of their total working hours.
