Tiivistelmä työpaikkailmoituksesta: The doctoral project develops high‑power broadband fiber‑based structured‑light sources and uses machine learning to tune spatial, spectral and temporal properties inside multimode optical fibers. The position is based at Tampere University, Finland, lasts 36 months with a 6‑month trial, targets a PhD degree, and starts by 1 January 2027 at the latest under Prof. Goëry Genty and Assoc. Prof. Regina Gumenyuk. Applicants must hold an MSc and have strong, hands‑on background in photonics/optics/laser physics (experience in nonlinear optics, fibers, ultrafast or structured light and skills in modelling or ML are advantageous), must meet MSCA mobility rules and demonstrate English proficiency. The approximate gross salary is €3,950/month (living and mobility allowance) or about €4,450/month if eligible for family allowance, with Finnish taxes and statutory fees applied. HiPOVor is an international doctoral network developing a new generation of high-power light beams carrying optical angular momentum. Fifteen doctoral researchers will work across the full technology chain, from beam generation and amplification to propagation, characterization and applications. The network brings together eight leading European universities and nine industrial partners, providing interdisciplinary training at the interface of advanced photonics, structured light and high-power laser technologies. The aim is to advance both fundamental science and practical applications, while training a new generation of specialists for academic and industrial careers. Job description Project title: High power broadband fiber-based structured light with machine learning tuneable spatio-temporal characteristics Project tasks and objectives : This doctoral project will explore how AI can control complex light inside multimode optical fibers. You will develop high-power broadband structured-light sources and use machine learning to tune their spatial, spectral and temporal properties on demand. The work combines nonlinear fiber optics, structured light, ultrafast photonics and AI, with the goal of turning complex multimode dynamics into a programmable light source rather than an uncontrolled effect. Expected results : The project will deliver new methods for AI-programmable all-fiber structured-light generation, enabling dynamically tunable beam shape, spectrum and temporal behavior at practical power levels. Potential applications include imaging, sensing, laser processing and industrial inspection. Planned secondment(s) : University of Warsaw (Poland), University of Stuttgart (Germany) The Doctoral candidate will also be involved in dissemination through social media promotion of the network, such as project website, LinkedIn groups, YouTube video channels, and blogging. Place of employment : Tampere University, Finland Supervisory team : Professor Goëry Genty and Associate Professor Regina Gumenyuk Expected starting date : January 1st, 2027 at the latest. Duration of the work contract : 36 months Trial period : 6 months Target degree : PhD degree from Tampere University, Finland Approximate gross salary : The gross salary for the work contract in Finland is 3,950 euros/month (living allowance and mobility allowance). If the fellow is eligible for family allowance, the salary for the work contract is approx. 4,450 euros/month. The salary will be defined in accordance with MSCA funding rules. The MSCA Fellow pays the Finnish progressive tax and employee unemployment insurance fee from the taxable monthly gross salary. Requirements We are looking for a talented, creative and highly motivated researcher with a strong background in photonics, optics, laser physics or a closely related field. Applicants are expected to have prior hands-on experience in experimental optics or photonics. Experience in nonlinear optics, optical fibes, ultrafast optics or structured light is particularly relevant. Skills in numerical modelling, Python/MATLAB, machine learning or optical data analysis are considered an advantage. The candidate should be comfortable with laboratory work and interested in combining advanced photonics experiments with computational and AI-based methods. The recruited researcher can be of any nationality, must be eligible for enrolment in the doctoral programme at Tampere University , must not hold a doctoral degree, and must fulfil the applicable employment requirements in Finland
