Hardware Engineer
Location: Porvoo, Finland | Hybrid
About the Role
SPX AtoN is looking for an experienced Hardware Engineer to join our engineering team in Porvoo and play a key role in the development of innovative electronic products.
This is a highly hands-on role, with a particular focus on PCB and electronics design. You’ll take designs from requirements through schematic and PCB development, prototyping and testing, working closely with firmware, software and systems engineers throughout the development process.
We’re looking for someone who enjoys solving real engineering challenges and wants to see their designs progress from concept through to working hardware.
What You’ll Do
Design and develop embedded electronic hardware, with a strong focus on PCB design.
Create schematics, PCB layouts and manufacturing files using Altium Designer.
Develop and test prototypes, taking ownership of your designs through the testing phase.
Research new technologies and identify opportunities to improve existing designs.
Translate product and system requirements into practical hardware solutions.
Create technical specifications, test plans and design documentation.
Work closely with systems, firmware/software, test and project engineering teams.
Analyse existing designs and identify opportunities for modification and improvement.
Ensure designs meet relevant EMC, safety, environmental and industry standards.
Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering processes and ways of working.
What You’ll Bring
Experience in electronics/hardware design, ideally within embedded systems.
A degree in Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering or a related discipline.
Strong practical experience with PCB and schematic design.
Professional experience with Altium Designer; PADS experience is a plus.
Strong knowledge of analogue electronics, with good understanding of digital and power electronics.
Understanding of how to take a hardware requirement through to a working design.
Basic knowledge of RF electronics and wireless technologies. RF is beneficial but is not the primary focus of the role.
Knowledge of interfaces and protocols such as UART, I²C and SPI.
Familiarity with wireless technologies such as BLE, LTE-M, NB-IoT and LoRaWAN.
An understanding of GNSS and satellite communications would be advantageous.
Experience using laboratory equipment for hardware testing and troubleshooting.
Good written and spoken English.
A Hands-On Engineering Role
This is not a role where you simply hand your designs over to someone else to test. You will be closely involved in both the design and testing of your hardware, particularly as we develop new products.
The role offers hybrid working during the design phase, while prototype development and testing will need to be carried out onsite in Porvoo.
Why Join SPX AtoN?
You’ll have the opportunity to work on new electronic product development, tackling interesting engineering challenges and seeing your designs move from initial concept through to working prototypes.
If you have a strong electronics background, enjoy hands-on PCB design and want to work across the full hardware development lifecycle, we’d love to hear from you.
