The team of Wärtsilä marine engineering simulators is looking forMath Modeller. You can become part of a team which works on a market leader product (45% market share) that imitates marine engineering functionality for vessels. The preferred location for this position is Helsinki, Finland but also Turku, Finland is negotiable. We offer a possibility to hybrid work.
Main responsibilities:
* Develop from the scratch for dynamic math models of vessel equipment and systems.
* Create front-end side of simulators.
* Compile technical documentation for these models.
* Maintain existing models.
* Take a part in agile activities.
To be successful in this position, we expect you to:
* Bs or MS in physics, applied math, engineering or similar field.
* Practical experience in imitation modelling of physical systems.
* Basic knowledge of numerical methods for solving PDE and DAE.
* Basic knowledge of OOP approach or any OOP language.

We will be amazed if you have (but not mandatory):
* Be familiar with Open Modelica or any Modelica-based language.
* Be able to quickly master new tools.
* Have a background in marine engineering.
Practical experience in imitation modelling required in one of the areas:
* Hydraulics (gravity flow, pumping through pipeline, pump characteristics, pipeline elements resistance, Bernoulli equation, two-phase media flow (liquid + gas)).
* Heat Transfer (heat capacity of materials – solid, liquids, gases; heat exchange between various media; temperature transfer & temperature resistance of materials).
* Thermodynamics (ideal gas laws; real gas specifics; main thermodynamics parameters and characteristics, its interdependencies; thermodynamics laws; phase transitions).
* Mechanics (kinematics and dynamics of rigid body, rotational dynamics equations; mechanical energy parameters and equations, mechanical energy transitions, inertia characteristics; simple mechanisms).
* Automation and regulation (main principals and parameters; governors (controllers) – main types and work principals; controlled system parameters and dynamic).
