You will develop system arrangements and piping diagrams, design system components, support equipment procurement and supplier selection, and prepare test programs for testing and commissioning. The role requires a Bachelor's or Master's in Naval Architecture or relevant engineering, several years of experience (preferably in ship machinery or at a shipyard), strong problem-solving skills, and good written and spoken English. The position is hybrid based in Helsinki, Turku or Pori within a 40‑person Machinery Design Department working on large icebreaker projects, and candidates must pass a medical/drug test and obtain security clearance. Read more about the project here! We are now looking for a Power Generation and Auxiliary Piping Systems Responsible Designer for the 40-member Machinery Design Department. The Machinery Design Department is responsible for the system design, equipment procurement, and detailed design of ship propulsion machinery and related systems. In this role, you will be responsible for: Serve as the Systems Responsible Designer for diesel engines, cooling water systems, exhaust gas systems, and related ship systems. Take technical responsibility for assigned systems throughout the full ship design process. Oversee cost-effective, regulatory-compliant, and high-quality design solutions throughout the project. Develop system arrangements and piping diagrams during the basic design phase. Design and develop system components and technical solutions. Provide technical support for equipment purchasing and supplier selection. Prepare test programs and support testing and commissioning activities. Provide specialist technical support to production teams. Collaborate with other designers and production specialists to resolve design and integration challenges. Communicate and coordinate with equipment suppliers and other stakeholders. Participate in line organization and engineering process development activities. To succeed in this role: You have a Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Naval Architecture or another relevant field of Engineering. Strong problem-solving skills are a must. You have at least a few years of work experience Experience in the field of ship machinery is highly appreciated. Ideally, you have experience in a similar role at a shipyard.
