You will make technical, economic and regulatory design decisions, prepare system arrangements, piping diagrams and specifications, and support equipment procurement, testing and commissioning. The role requires a Bachelor’s or Master’s in Naval Architecture or related engineering, several years’ experience (ship machinery experience preferred), strong problem-solving and collaborative skills, and good written and spoken English. The position offers hybrid work from Helsinki, Turku or Pori on long shipbuilding projects (including a heavy icebreaker), and candidates must apply via the recruitment system and undergo a medical/drug test and security clearance. We are now beginning construction on a new heavy icebreaker for the Canadian government. The vessel will be constructed in Helsinki before being completed at Davie's shipyard in Quebec by 2030. Read more about the project here! We are now looking for a Ship Heating System Responsible Designer for the 40-member Machinery Design Department. The Machinery Design Department is responsible for the system design, equipment procurement, and detailed design of ship propulsion machinery and related systems. In this role, you will: Act as the responsible systems designer for ship heating systems and energy recovery technologies in ship projects. Make technical, economical, regulatory, and quality-related design decisions throughout the project. Develop heating and energy recovery system solutions throughout the design process. Prepare system arrangements, piping diagrams, specifications, and technical documentation for the basic design phase. Develop system components and provide technical support for equipment procurement. Prepare test and commissioning programs and support the production team as a technical specialist. Work closely with suppliers, other designers, and production specialists to find practical design solutions and develop our ways of working. To succeed in this role: You have a Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Naval Architecture or another relevant field of Engineering. Strong problem-solving skills are a must. You have at least a few years of work experience Experience in the field of ship machinery is highly appreciated. Ideally, you have experience in a similar role at a shipyard. The ability to work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment is essential.
