Two university lecturers, teaching in the Nanjing-Helsinki Institute

Tiivistelmä työpaikkailmoituksesta: The University of Helsinki is hiring two university lecturers to teach and do research for joint bachelor, master and doctoral atmospheric science programmes at the Nanjing–Helsinki Institute, starting 1 November 2026 or as agreed. The role requires mainly on-site teaching at Nanjing University, supervision and examination of BSc/MSc/PhD theses, and engagement in research, with English as the working language. Applicants must hold a doctoral degree by the application deadline and preferably have over two years’ relevant experience in either atmospheric chemical transport and aerosol modelling or in plant physiology/biogeochemistry and ecosystem–climate interactions. The salary ranges from 4,600 to 5,300 euros per month depending on qualifications and seniority, and applications are due by 9 September 2026 via the University of Helsinki recruitment system. RESPONSABILITIES The main duties are teaching for joint bachelor, master and doctoral programs in atmospheric sciences with Nanjing University, supervision of doctoral students and examination of BSc, MSc and PhD theses. The teaching will be performed mainly on-site at Nanjing University campuses in China. The work requires teaching experience in the present degree programmes in atmospheric sciences at the University of Helsinki (ATM-MP and ATM-SciDoc) or equivalent experience of teaching similar courses. The duties of a university lecturer also include research. Working language is English. QUALIFICATIONS An ideal candidate has over 2 years of experience in similar duties and expertise in a) or b) clarified below. a) Expertise in atmospheric chemical transport model development and application, with experience using the CSC – IT Center for Science’s Finnish supercomputing facilities. Research focuses on the atmospheric evolution of aerosol particles, their formation processes, source-attribution analysis and impacts particularly across European and Chinese regions. And teaching experience in aerosol physics, health effects of fine particles, meteorological observations and climate change. b) Experience in links between plant physiology, carbon and water cycling, and climate resilience across scales from organs to ecosystems using physiological experiments, isotopic analyses, ecosystem measurements, and modeling. And teaching experience in biogeochemistry, biometeorology, forestry and climate change, and quantitative methods including scientific computing and statistics. We appreciate experience in teaching in the Nanjing degree programme. Pedagogical training is considered as a merit. The appointee of the university lecturer shall hold an applicable doctoral degree and be able to provide high-quality research-based teaching. The degree requirement must be met before the end of the application period.
