Jobbeskrivning
Are you interested in how transport can become more sustainable and looking for a new job opportunity in the field? Would you like to work with transport modelling and impact assessment to understand the environmental, economic and societal impacts of changes in transport? Do you want to build a science career and work in a versatile role at the interface of academy and industry? VTT might be just the place for you. VTT is one of the leading applied research organisations in Europe. What unites us are curiosity, a passion for learning and a purpose: to solve the biggest challenges of our time and turn them into sustainable growth and well-being. Our cross-disciplinary community of over 2000 brilliant minds from 55+ different nationalities focuses on creating impact through science-based innovation. Get to know us further by exploring VTT's tech & infra . We are now looking for a Senior Scientist to join our Transport and Mobility team As a Senior Scientist, you will have an essential role in building, implementing and steering our project portfolio and developing new research and business opportunities in transport energy and emissions. Our research takes a transport system viewpoint, considering all types of users as well as direct and indirect impacts of new transport technologies and services. Our team, Transport and mobility, works on impact assessment of emerging transport technologies, developing user-centric mobility services, traffic safety, and solutions to improve logistics. Our research supports the transition towards safer, more sustainable and resilient mobility and transport through data, modelling, and system-level analysis. We work in a hybrid model, with approximately three office days per week. The primary location for this role is Espoo, but Tampere or Oulu can also be considered. Your responsibilities as a Senior Scientist: Contribute as an active and collaborative member of our research team. Develop methodologies, models and analytical tools to assess transport-system impacts of changes in transport energy use, emissions, and related system-level impacts, using data from e.g. transport statistics, vehicle fleets, transport models and traffic simulations. Assess the environmental, economic and societal impacts of new transport technologies, services and policy measures, including their costs, benefits and trade-offs. Work primarily with road transport while contributing to assessments of multimodal transport covering road, rail, aviation and maritime transport. Identify and develop new research and business opportunities, helping translate research and capabilities into customer value and new offerings in transport energy, emissions and system-level impact assessment. Act as project manager or work package leader in national and international research and innovation projects and support the work of less experienced colleagues. Collaborate with industry, authorities, policymakers and research partners, and communicate research results through reports, peer-reviewed publications and presentations. Who we are looking for: Master’s or Doctoral degree in a suitable field. Knowledge and previous experience of transport energy use, emissions and decarbonisation, and understanding of their theoretical background. Experience in transport modelling, scenario analysis and impact assessment, preferably related to emission and energy scenarios, uptake of new transport technologies, policy measures, and multimodal transport chains. Strong understanding of road transport systems. Experience or knowledge of rail and/or maritime transport is considered an advantage, particularly for analysing emissions, energy use and impacts across multimodal transport and logistics chains. Good data analysis and modelling skills, for example using Python, R or similar tools. Experience in transport economics, cost-benefit analysis and/or environmental and socioeconomic impact assessment is considered an advantage. Previous experience of research and innovation projects. Ability to identify customer needs and new opportunities and contribute to proposal preparation, offering development and building new projects with customers and partners. Good teamwork and project management skills. Good written and spoken English language skills. Proficiency in Finnish is considered an asset. As a person, we hope that you are: You are focused and systematic and take pride in delivering high-quality work. You enjoy collaborating with colleagues, customers and partners across different fields and contribute to a positive team spirit. You are curious and open-minded, eager to learn and develop new topics, and willing to share your expertise and support others. You are interested in finding practical applications for research results and identifying opportunities to create value for customers and society. You are comfortable working with uncertainty and finding practical ways forward. What we offer you: Natural sciences with an impa
