Safegrid's Intelligent Grid System consists of two main components: field-deployed IoT sensor devices and a cloud platform. This role focuses on the embedded technology stack within our field-deployed devices, spanning cloud-connected RTOS-based microcontrollers, embedded Linux microprocessors, and building new products for the future. We are looking for an experienced Senior Firmware & Embedded Software Engineer to strengthen our capability in RTOS-based systems, embedded Linux, and future product development. This is a senior-level individual contributor role with substantial technical ownership. Working with our electronics, systems, cloud, and test engineering topics, you will design, develop, and verify embedded software while driving product roadmap execution, and progressively take ownership of critical embedded platforms and future product development across the Safegrid portfolio. What you will do Design and develop reliable firmware and embedded software for RTOS-based microcontrollers and embedded Linux platforms. Debug and resolve complex hardware/software interactions during development, manufacturing, and field operations. Execute the product roadmap and lead the technical development of new products for the future. Drive embedded software architecture, technical specifications, and continuous improvement of engineering practices. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to manage technical risks and ensure the successful delivery of high-reliability products. What we are looking for Strong engineering fundamentals. Substantial hands-on experience in firmware and embedded software development for RTOS and embedded Linux environments. Strong practical skills in low-level hardware interfaces and hardware/software interaction. Experience taking ownership of complex embedded systems or products. A systematic, evidence-based approach to multidisciplinary technical problem-solving. Clear communication skills, professional proficiency in English, and the ability to challenge assumptions constructively. A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, with senior-level experience, or equivalent practical background. Useful experience Familiarity with cellular or IoT wireless communications, digital signal processing, low-power and battery-operated embedded systems, automated testing and CI/CD for embedded software, board-level debugging using laboratory instrumentation, high-reliability industrial systems, energy grid technologies, or FPGA integration. We do not expect candidates to already know all of these areas. Strong fundamentals, technical curiosity, and the enthusiasm to learn unfamiliar domains are more important than experience with particular tools or technologies. Location and working model The role is based in Turku or Espoo, Finland and combines flexible remote work with necessary hands-on laboratory and collaboration time at the office.
