Jobbeskrivning

Tiivistelmä työpaikkailmoituksesta: Tampere University is hiring two tenure‑track faculty in Computational Physics (Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor) focused on Quantum Information/Computational Quantum Science and Complex Systems Physics including Physics & AI. Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in physics or a related field and demonstrate research experience; successful candidates will lead research, teach, supervise students and secure external funding. Initial appointments for Assistant/Associate Professors are five years with tenure possible after a successful evaluation, full Professors receive permanent appointments, new hires receive a negotiated start‑up package, and a six‑month trial period applies. Salaries follow the Finnish University Salary System (typical starting salaries approximately 4800–5300 EUR/month for Assistant Professors, 5500–6200 EUR/month for Associate Professors and 6600–7400 EUR/month for Professors), and applications in English (PDF) are due by 16 November 2026 via the online recruitment system. Together, Tampere University and Tampere University of Applied Sciences form a higher education community that places faith in people and scientific knowledge. Leading experts in the fields of technology, health and society are changing the world at Finland’s second largest multidisciplinary higher education institution. www.tuni.fi/en The Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences at Tampere University is inviting applications for two tenure-track positions in computational physics. The Computational Physics Laboratory is one of the three laboratories of the the Physics Unit of the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences (ENS). Our research combines mathematical and physical modelling, numerical simulations, data-driven methods, and high-performance computing to study materials, low-dimensional systems, quantum matter and information, statistical physics and complex systems, biophysics, and complex phenomena across multiple scales. We address both fundamental and applied research challenges, with application areas ranging from quantum technologies and advanced materials to computational cardiology and other interdisciplinary problems at the interface of physics, engineering, and life sciences. By bridging theory, experiments, data, and computation, we develop next-generation methods that advance scientific discovery and technological innovation. As an active member of InstituteQ, the Finnish quantum institute, we contribute to the national quantum ecosystem spanning quantum science, technologies, and innovation. Leveraging Finland's world-class computing infrastructure provided by CSC – IT Center for Science and complemented by our local Tampere Center for Scientific Computing (TCSC) facilities, we increasingly integrate machine learning and artificial intelligence into modelling, simulation, inverse problems, and scientific data analysis. Tampere University provides a distinctive setting for computational physics in Finland: a technology-oriented, multidisciplinary university where fundamental physics is closely connected to engineering, data science, AI, materials research, health-related modelling and high-performance computing. The successful candidates will join an environment that is particularly well-positioned to bridge theory, computation, experiments and applications. Job description We seek scientific excellence and future potential broadly in Computational Physics , with the aim of complementing and strengthening our current research activities. We are particularly interested in candidates who develop novel computational, theoretical, and data-driven approaches to address fundamental and emerging challenges in physics and beyond. The two open positions are thematically as follows: Quantum Information and Computational Quantum Science: We seek candidates pursuing internationally recognised research in theoretical and computational quantum physics broadly related to quantum information science and technology. Relevant areas include, but are not limited to quantum computing and algorithms, quantum simulation, quantum-information-inspired approaches to many-body systems, complex quantum dynamics and tensor-network methods. We particularly welcome applicants developing new computational paradigms that integrate ideas from quantum information, high-performance computing, and artificial intelligence. Complex Systems Physics, including Physics & AI : We seek candidates pursuing internationally recognised research in computational statistical physics, complex systems, and multidisciplinary applications of physics. Relevant areas include, but are not limited to, statistical physics, complex systems, nonlinear dynamics, network science, optimization, and physics-based approaches to understanding complex natural, technological, and societal phenomena. We particularly welcome applicants working at the int
