Are you all about science and technology? Would you like to complete your Master's thesis while contributing to the development of automated vehicles that can operate safely in extreme operation design domains? Do you want to work with superb colleagues who are experts in their field and develop your skills in signal processing, programming, connected driving and environmental perception? VTT might be just the place for you. VTT is one of the leading applied research organisations in Europe. What unites us are curiosity, a passion for learning and a purpose: to solve the biggest challenges of our time and turn them into sustainable growth and well-being. Our cross-disciplinary community of over 2,000 brilliant minds from more than 55 nationalities focuses on creating impact through science-based innovation. Get to know us further by exploring VTT's technology infrastructures . We are now looking for a Master's Thesis Worker to join our automated vehicles research team. Join us and let's make an impact together! In this position, you will complete your Master's thesis related to situation awareness of automated vehicles and machines. Your work will focus on filtering and analysing sensor data to help automated systems understand their surroundings, particularly in challenging operating conditions. The research may address conditions that are especially relevant in Northern environments, such as snow, ice, snow dust and other situations in which the capabilities of both human drivers and automated systems are put to the test. Alongside your thesis, you will contribute to the team's ongoing research and development work related to Physical AI. Our team develops technologies for automated vehicles and machinery for applications including automotive, heavy machinery, industrial environments, and defence. We combine research in environmental perception, sensing, connectivity and automation to support the development of reliable autonomous systems for demanding real-world environments. As a Master's Thesis Worker, you will: Plan and carry out a Master's thesis related to sensor data processing for automated vehicles or machines. Develop, implement software and algorithms that support situation awareness of CAVs. Participate in experimental work and testing in laboratory and also test fields (e.g. proving grounds). Document your work and communicate your findings systematically. Contribute to selected research project tasks alongside your thesis including HD maps, data spaces, connectivity, AI and driver monitoring. Who we are looking for: You are studying towards a relevant Master's degree, for example in signal processing, machinery automation, image processing, photonics, optics or a related field, and are ready to start your Master's thesis. You have studies or practical experience in signal processing and programming, for example with Python or C++. You have sufficient knowledge of mathematics and physics to work with sensing technologies and measurement data. You are able to work and communicate in English. You have a valid European B (passenger car) driving licence. Interested and eligible to participate in defence sector research and collaborate with NATO and Finnish Defence Forces. As a person, we hope that you are: Curious, practical and eager to learn. You enjoy solving technical problems and are willing to explore different approaches independently when a ready-made answer is not available. At the same time, you collaborate openly with others, adapt to changing situations and bring a positive, hands-on attitude to the team. We appreciate motivation and willingness to learn over having all the answers or skills ready when you start. With VTT, you’ll enjoy: Impactful work for the future. As a leading applied research organisation, we are on a mission to bring exponential hope to the world by joining together people, businesses, science and technology. Career opportunities, top-level mentors. At VTT, young professionals' skills are appreciated and supported with the opportunity to learn from the top experts in their field. You'll get to discover our community of over 2,000 experts representing more than 55 nationalities working across cutting-edge fields of science and technology. Meaningful projects, real responsibility. At VTT, young talents get to take on meaningful projects in research or supporting researchers' work. We treat young talents as equals and give them real responsibility from the start. VTT is a caring employer that supports your growth and work-life balance and offers a range of well-being services.
