We are looking for an experienced English university teacher with knowledge of English for specific purposes. This is a permanent position located at the Language Centre on the Joensuu campus. The position will be filled from 1 January 2027. Read more below and apply by 2 October 2026.
Role and salary
The responsibilities of the university teacher include:
- Teaching English language and communication skills required for university degrees in specific fields,
- Teaching English needed within the university community and in collaboration networks,
- Developing materials, methods, and assessment, and
- Preparatory and administrative tasks related to teaching.
The university teacher will participate in the development work of their team and the Language Centre. The position includes contact teaching on Joensuu campus.
The position will be filled with an open-ended contract starting from 1 January 2027. A six-month probationary period will be applied upon the commencement of a new employee.
The salary for the position is determined according to the salary system for teaching and research staff at universities. The salary consists of a task-specific salary component and a performance-based salary component. In this position, the task-specific salary component is at level 5 in the demand level classification. Additionally, a performance-based salary component of 6-50% of the task-specific salary component is paid. Depending on the performance-based salary component, the salary at the beginning of the employment is approximately € 3400-3900 per month.
Our requirements and expectations
We require the following:
- A relevant Master's degree,
- Major subject studies or equivalent in English,
- Pedagogical training (teacher's pedagogical studies or equivalent),
- Good teaching skills,
- Experience in teaching English for specific purposes at a language centre or equivalent higher education unit,
- Experience in online and blended teaching, and
- Excellent and versatile command of the English language.

Teaching skills will be assessed based on the portfolio of teaching merits, teaching demonstration, and interview. Interviews and teaching demonstrations will be held on Friday 13 November in Joensuu, and the exact time will be announced to the invited applicants as soon as possible after the application period ends.
