Package design plays a critical role in an efficient end-to-end value chain. Our packaging solutions must be highly space-efficient, reliable, cost-effective, and sustainable across inbound supplier flows, internal global transfers, and global customer deliveries. They safeguard product quality, streamline final installation at the customer site, and seamlessly align with our operational model.
Are you a forward-thinking engineer who views packaging through a complete value chain lens? We are looking for a Packaging Engineer to join our vibrant R&D organization. In this role, you will integrate into new product development projects from early concept stages and optimize packaging across our existing product portfolio. Your mission is to drive operational efficiency, enhance sustainability, and ensure our soundproof pods arrive flawlessly anywhere in the world.
You will join our 30+ person R&D organization, which drives product innovation, sustainability, compliance and IPR at Framery. In your daily work, you’ll collaborate closely with R&D engineers, your supply chain packaging counterpart, and key cross-functional partners across the business.
The official location for this position is at our headquarters in Tampere, Finland, where we expect an active weekly presence (minimum 60% onsite, with higher presence during key project phases). Some international travel will be required.
Your core responsibilities include:
Early R&D Integration:
Joining product development projects at their earliest stages to work alongside R&D engineers, designing product packages and their crate packaging synergistically from concept to launch.
Portfolio Optimization & Auditing:
Auditing and redesigning current packaging across our existing product portfolio to optimize material usage, reduce transit volume, minimize environmental impact, and minimize packaging-related quality claims.
End-to-End Packaging & Material Flows:
While primary customer packaging is the priority, you will tackle packaging needs across all material flows—including internal sub-packaging, factory-to-HUB transfers, and inbound supplier packaging.
Global Supply Chain & Local Sourcing Alignment:
Understanding global material streams and supporting long-term regional packaging strategies, such as driving localized packaging solutions and supplier setups in key markets like the US.
Value Chain & Unboxing Engineering:
Collaborating with supply chain counterparts to design robust crate structures for multi-modal global transit, establishing standardized testing protocols (e.g., vibration, impact, atmospheric testing), and engineering intuitive unboxing layouts that simplify on-site assembly and minimize waste for field installers.
Focus Areas:
Concept creation and design focused on freight & space efficiency, transit quality & damage reduction, last-mile & installer experience, compliance (e.g. the PPWR regulation) and sustainability & circularity.

You combine technical confidence with a practical execution mindset—knowing how to balance quality, cost, and efficiency—along with the collaborative drive needed to bridge technical design concepts with real-world execution alongside internal and external partners.
We’re looking for:
Demonstrated professional interest and experience in packaging engineering within an industrial manufacturing environment: handling large, heavy, or high-value modular products.
Strong understanding of end-to-end supply chain material flows, from inbound component deliveries to factory-to-HUB logistics and final customer shipment.
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials, Logistics, or a related technical field.
Proficiency in state-of-the-art packaging design software and 3D CAD modeling tools such as SolidWorks, CAPE, ArtiosCAD, or TOPS.
Deep understanding of physical properties, cost structures, and sustainable material selection for corrugated cardboard, wood, plywood, honeycomb boards, and impact-absorbing materials.
Practical experience with transport simulation standards and packaging testing protocols.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills in English; day-to-day communicative Finnish skills are considered a clear benefit.
Readiness for an active weekly presence (min. 60%) at our HQ in Tampere.
