Tampere University and Tampere University of Applied Sciences create a unique environment for multidisciplinary, inspirational and high-impact research and education. Our university community has its competitive edges in technology, health and society. www.tuni.fi/en . We are looking for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow specializing in biomedicine, focused on neurodegenerative research, to join our Regulatory Genomics research group at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Technology (MET). The position is full-time and will be filled for a fixed-term period of two years. The workplace is located at Kauppi Campus, Tampere University. The research is conducted in the Regulatory Genomics group at the Biomedicine unit, MET. We investigate the spatial and temporal dynamics of gene regulation in disease. Using single-cell and spatial genomics, our group maps cell type-specific regulatory programs relevant to disease onset and progression, with the overarching goal of understanding how these regulatory processes reside within the disease microenvironment, and how genetic variation influences them. The Faculty of Medicine and Health Technology (MET) is dedicated to pursuing world-class research ranging from clinical medicine and translational medicine, through molecular biology, biotechnology and cell biology, to biomedical engineering, biomicrosystems, biomaterials, and biorobotics. We conduct internationally acclaimed basic and applied research. Job description We are looking for a talented and motivated postdoctoral researcher to join the Regulatory Genomics research group in investigating how microglial states emerge in response to neurodegenerative disease-related stressors and how these states manifest within diseased brain tissue. The project will employ advanced single-cell and spatial genomic techniques developed by the group as well computational inference approaches to study glial gene regulation. Requirements: We are seeking a versatile and independent researcher with experience supporting experimental or computational aspects of neuroscience research and/or single-cell or spatial genomics. Applicable doctoral degree in the field, e.g. Biomedicine, Neuroscience, Molecular and Cellular Biology, and/or Genomics completed by the starting date, High motivation and a strong research orientation, The ability to work independently, and stay current with relevant literature, Strong interpersonal and networking skills, along with a willingness to mentor junior researchers , Fluency in spoken and written English.
